You're welcome Nicki. I initially referred you to the 'live chat' as I thought it would be the best course of action at the time. However as Judy said, as the techs have since advised against making a recovery backup for your laptop, it's probably better that you ask in the support forum with your current concerns :)

Of course Nicki, if your hard drive goes kaput anytime (that is where the Recovery is stored, on the partition, probably called D:), you won't be able to do a system recovery without it being saved on a separate disc or flash drive.

Hi Snoops:
That's what I have been trying to do, make a recovery disc,on a flash drive. but, the option does not come up on my computer now, so I went to the Dell support Forum as Judy told me to do. and Put in "How do I make a system recovery disc?" and there were 27 people on there that all said the same thing, they can NOT make a recovery disc, some said that when they e-mailed Dell, there were told that the hard drives were corrupted, and some of them were sent out a service person who installed a new hard Drive, then the Recovery Disc was able to be downloaded, There were LOTS of angry people on there complaining about their new Dell Inspiron 15R Laptops

Nicki please follow the instructions I gave you earlier to format the flash drive, so that anything on there is removed and it's ready for use. Then join the Dell support forum & start a new topic explaining what problems you are experiencing with your new laptop. Every laptop is different, so it may be something very simple and easily remedied.

The only other alternative you have, is to restore your laptop to it's factory settings as set out in the link below. This will put it back to the state it was in when it was delivered to you and you can then start from scratch. Therefore remember to save any photos, files etc that you have put onto your new laptop
http://support.dell....6&isLegacy=true

However I still think it is the best option to seek advice in the Dell Support forum. Hope that helps :)

Hi Mumsboys:
I did Format and take everything off the Flash Drive, and I also went to Dell Support Forum See #38 above, Evidently 29 people are having the same problem with Making a System Recovery on a Disc or on a Flash Drive.
On Dell Live Chat they took my telephone number and are supposed to phone me in 12 to 24 hours so we will see.

Have a question if you don't mind, Will it hurt to keep my laptop plugged in or should I unplug it after use, it says "fully charged" but, yesterday after using it, I just turned it off then left it plugged in , is that alright ? or should it be unplugged?

and I have not put anything on my laptop, the only thing I did was put Spider Solitaire onto the desktop

and I am not getting any answers at all from Dell Suport Forum SIGH!!
Looks like I might just have to try to get everything back to like it was when I bought it and then try to get the Recovery System on a Flash Drive

and then it that does not work, I will follow Mumsboys hint on the bottom of her answers I will throw it out the window LOL!

Do not leave it plugged in once it's fully charged and you're not using it again that day. There have been problems in the past with certain types of batteries, recalls and such, to be wary of laptops and overheating batteries.

I'm not saying you will have a problem with yours but it's better to be safe than sorry.

The only thing I can suggest is to either chase Dell Support for an answer, or restore you laptop to factory settings using the link I gave you in reply #29. You will hopefully then be given the option to create a recovery backup when you are setting the laptop up again. Good luck :)

Thanks Mumsboys:
That is what I am going to do. Revert it back to like it was when I first got it, then I'm sure it will again offer the DataSafe Back-up and this time I will be ready with a 16GB flash Drive. lol!
I am also now starting to get answers from the people at Dell Support fForum too.
I really do appreciate everyone's help here at C.F. more than you will ever know. (f)

Thanks everybody:
I got my laptop back to factory default. then did the set-up, and am now downloading the DataSafe Recovery Backup onto the 16GB Flash Drive, it is now 100% downloaded and everything seems to be working fine. it just told me to "take out the flash Drive and put it in a safe place." thanks to C.F for all your help.
Now have to get hold of A.T. & T they advertise high speed internet for $14 per month, for 3.0 Mbps or for $19.95 month gets 6.0 Mbps plus nation wide Wi.Fi. think I will go with the $19.95 Is 6 Mbps pretty fast or not? or should I go higher? they have U-verse for $44.99 month with 24 Mbps (what is U-verse?)
Right now I am paying $21.99 month for Dial up . Very slow dial-up lol!
' I phoned A.T. & T and they are supposed to come out next week, (we may get the bundle package with T.V. phone and internet) not sure yet.

Great news that you have the recovery back up on the flash drive now (y)

We have 10MB broadband & that is ample for our family needs so I would think 6MBs is more than enough for what you need Nicki. I dont know what U-verse is to be honest. It may be worth giving them a call back & have them explain that to you.

This is from their website, but not sure it will help

What is U-verse?
U-verse includes fiber optic technology and computer networking to bring you advanced digital TV, high-speed Internet, and digital home phone service together as a fully integrated experience.

Hi Mumsboys:
I'm sure you are getting fed up with my stupid questions but, everything that you tell me really helps me.
Another question if you don't mind,
Is A.T.& T. HIGH SPEED INTERNET BROADBAND?
or is
Broadband something else? Nicki

AT&T offers everything from dial up to wireless to DSL. DSL is a type of high speed broadband connection. You want DSL on this page:
http://www.att.com/d...bid=gNUKknD8S5H

If you already have a land line with someone other than AT&T, you can order "naked" DSL (called "Just DSL" on the site I linked to above) meaning they will run a line into your home for internet access only, no phone. If you have a landline phone with AT&T already, they can integrate DSL with it.

Again, you need to contact AT&T, tell them you are interested in high speed internet and tell them your needs. If you don't want wireless (which you do not need if you get a router), tell them you don't need that. If you don't want a landline phone with them, tell them you don't need that. We have "naked" DSL with the local telephone company and don't even have a landline anymore since everyone in our family has cell phones. Don't let them talk you into any extras you do not want or need. Remember, those low low rates for bundled services are almost always introductory and can go up quite steeply after the introductory period expires.

Thanks Judy, I have gotten in touch with A.T.&T. and they are coming on Thursday, to give me all the information, as we decide if we want T.V. phone and internet, or just internet. We have A.T.&T. land phone already. anyways we will see what happens,
I'm trying to decide if I should get the A.T.&T. and then cancel Earthlink, OR if I should cancel Earthlink first and then get A.T.&T. But , then I would be without internet for awhile. Oh well! too many things going on here to worry about that now.

Nicki, I would give Earthlink a call & ask if you have to give notice to cancel & if so how long :)
