Avira and the Ask toolbar

Unfortunately, with the advent of SP2 for Avira 10 and included with Avira 12 freeware, the poor business decision has been made to bundle in the Ask toolbar, an adware fueled application, disguised as WebGuard.
When Avira ends support for previous, "clean" versions of their antivirus and you wish to keep using Avira without the installation of this unwanted program, you must take care to use the custom installation option and disallow the installation of WebGuard. If you have already allowed it, uninstall it via add/remove programs or programs and features>uninstall a program in Control Panel and reboot. Then see posts 21 and 23 in this thread for instructions on how to remove and replace the Ask related files that are left behind and running, even after disallowing WebGuard: http://www.community...tn-avira-users/
If you feel you cannot follow those instructions, you would be better off uninstalling Avira completely (follow the instructions here: http://www.avira.com...detail/kbid/135 ) reboot, then install Avast freeware antivirus (link in our Links section).
