Here is a picture as promised, this was taken on his first night, he is now off the ventilator and they are just waiting for space to move him into room 2 which is a massive leap forward

Hi bessiesmum:
He is a REAL sweetheart, in the picture he looks big, but at only 1 lb 5 oz. he can fit in the palm of your hand. I took care of quite a few of them that size.
From the picture I can see that he is on a respirater, is getting I.V fluids through his umbilical cord. and has a feeding tube in his nose, so I'm glad to hear that he is off the respirater and is now on nasal oxygen, and that he is getting formula (or moms breast milk) through the feeding tube, (he still does not have the strength to suck).
From the looks of it , He is REALLY doing good. All of ours prayers are really helping him.

What a precious little baby!

What a precious little one you have been blessed with. My warmest prayers for that
precious baby and for your whole family. They say when there is a situation like his,
that the more a baby is touched, held and talked to, they start taking more steps
forward faster. Congrats again to you and to the whole family.

Awww! Sweet little baby!

Thank you all for your kind words, Nicki he is indeed alot smaller than this picture makes him look, I have been trying to think of something universal to comare the tiny tubes and wires to, to give you all perspective, I suppose the clear tube going into his umbilical cord is about 1-2ml wide like a strand of average knitting wool.
Still going well, I will get some photos today.

usually it is good if the baby is touched, and held, but, NOT with a tiny preemie, we try not to touch them any more than neccessary, as it sends their tiny hearts racing, their normal heart rate is about 130- 160 BPM, and handling them can send it up into the 200's or higher. the premies only weigh so much when born, and they will lose weight (2-3 oz)their first 2-3 days, this is normal, then they will start to gain. but, if they are handled, patted or moved about, more than needed, they will lose weight instead of gain.
When baby is a little bigger they will do what they call "Kangaroo cuddling" We put naked baby (wearing only a tiny diaper) next to mommy's bare skin on her chest, and then cover them with a warm blanket. baby can feel mommies heart beat, and smell her too, it calms baby down and help him to grow. ( and does wonders for mommy) she will touch babies hair, and his cheek with her finger, and coo to him, it is wonderful to see all the love as she holds that precious little baby of hers.
I'm sure soon he will be growing bigger, and bigger, and bigger,and will go home just fine.

Hey all sorry I havent been back for a while, William-John is getting on Ok, he has had an infection which is being treated with anti biotics, a scary moment for a while there !
He now weighs in at a huge 1lb 10oz.
My daughter is finding it hard bless her as the babe in the next incubator is a day older than William and her mummy is able to have snuggles with her and Ami as of yet hasn't been able to because of the infection, it must be the hardest thing for her.
I have a few more photos to post and promise to try and let you know more often how he is doing

Totally precious, Bessie. Still praying for him and his family and I know it has to be hard for your daughter, but it looks like it won't be long now and she will be able to have her precious little fella in her loving arms where he belongs. May God continue to bless him and his Mommy during this trying time.

When you said that "he now weighs 1 lb 10 oz". and I looked at these pictures, I can tell you that he is doing good.
Number one, he weighed 1 lb 5 oz at birth, then in the first day or two he probably went down to about 1lb. 2or3 oz ,He now weighs a whopping 1 lb 10 oz. that is GREAT. and also he is lying prone. (on his stomach) we keep the premies on their backs, or sides until they are more stable, then we put them on their tummies. so he is now on his little tummy which means he is improving and getting better all the time.
Before long, mommy will be able to touch and hold her little one. We are all praying for it to happen soon. Nicki

Goodness me I think this tiny babe may become a giant in time, he is now 2lb 10oz and still gaining weight fast, he is being moved to room 3 as soon as there is a space for him, I do have another picci for you and will add it as soon as I can xxx
