Friend allowed automatic updates to download/install on laptop and was upgraded to IE 8. If possible and/or recommended what specific steps should be taken to get IE 7? Any helpful links and info are appreciated, so thanks in advance!

Which version of Windows is on their computer?
Vonni
XP Home Edition, Version 2002, SP3 with 512 GB RAM. Sorry about that Judy, and of course there are lots of updates for IE 8 installed.

This will depend on whether or not she installed SP3 before or after she installed IE8. If she installed it before, she won't be able to uninstall it unless she uninstalls SP3 first and reboots afterwards. If she installed it after, all she has to do is go to add/remove programs in the Control Panel, and in the list of currently installed programs, click Windows Internet Explorer 8, and then click Remove. Reboot.

Just to be clear...IE8 was installed before upgrading to SP3, so uninstalling SP3 is required first, correct? lol I'm confused, yet thx again!

You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 8 if it is set as not removable. This occurs if you install Internet Explorer 8 before you install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. If this scenario applies to you, then you must uninstall SP3 before you can uninstall Internet Explorer 8. When trying to download/install IE7, keep being directed to IE 8. Grrrrrrrrrrr Also told one must have at least IE7 in order to upgrade to SP3, no? I get that part, but about to toss two computers out the "window"...pun intended. lol

The computer should have been rolled back to IE7, but if not, the download link is here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

Thank you for the link Judy, I'll pass it on, and hopefully her laptop will let her 'go' there. From what I could determine, IE6, not 7, is now her default browser. How do you steer people when they're trying to find out what version of windows they are running?
