Full Version: Mac Finder Acting Up

hello!

I love this site and I always come back.

I have a question regarding Mac. I don't own a Mac myself and I rarely use it so my question could be a very easy one.

Yesterday, I was helping my photographer friend with a photo shoot. Afterwards, when he was trying to transfer/save the photos on his Mac, they disappeared. Or so he thought. Within a few minutes, I found his photos and saved them on a separate folder on the desktop.

Today, he called me and said that the programme Finder has changed.

Before, when he clicked on Finder on the menu on the bottom of his screen, it would show all folders (for instance, All Pictures, All Documents) etc.

Now when he clicks on Finder, however, a window appears with contents of the desktop only. Basically, a window to the desktop.

To access the "original view" on Finder, he has to click on Program on the menu of the bottom of the menu and then select Finder.

This is obviously not a huge problem other than that he's a photographer and sometimes has to process about 1000 pictures from a photo shoot. Finder makes his life easier.

How does one change the "folder view" in Finder back to the original setting?

Most of our members are PC users, not Mac users (although we do have a few). If no one here can answer your question, you may wish to join up on this forum and ask: http://macusersgroup.groupbox.com/

unsure.gif . . .well, since i am a new Mac user, i looked at mine &, for the life of me, i can't see what may have happened to change the settings on the Finder for your friend, hon! mine opens as it should, to my name with the usual folders? i'm thinking since he has to process so many photos, he may have accidentally hit something that caused the change in the settings? anyhoo, i can at least ask my son, who is also a Mac user & has been for a few years now, if he can see or think of anything that may help. will ask him a while after he get's home from work (he's waaay too grouchy right after work, lol) & see what he thinks, okay? sorry i can't be of more help—still learning my way around this, too!

. . .okay, so i told my son what was posted, even let him come & read it himself, but it still isn't making any sense to either of us. it would really be so helpful if you or he could get a screenshot of what he's seeing when he opens his Finder to post here for us to see, too. that way, we can compare it what we are seeing on different views & such with our Finder program. understand?

. . .because the part that really doesn't/isn't making sense to us is this:

"To access the "original view" on Finder, he has to click on Program on the menu of the bottom of the menu and then select Finder."

. . .we can't see anywhere in Desktop view of Finder where it say's that? is it possible for one of you to get a screenshot of that & post it? also, has he kept with any necessary updates, or, did this by any chance happen after an update occurred? things like that can really help with sorting through the problem.

. . .oh yeah, i guess i should also tell you that i'm not just some random nut passing through here, lol! i'm actually one of the staff of this outfit of do-gooders! i just haven't been as much as an active participant as i once was. you can easily check my credentials with the experts, if you'd like. i don't know as much as some on staff here, but i ain't too shabby either, lol again!

blush.gif . . .oh, and it would also help to know things like what model his Mac is, maybe what browser he uses (although i really can't see that being the issue here), it doesn't hurt to know all that we can know about his system in order to hopefully get to the bottom of this. thank you.
